Mission Statement"Your Advocate. Your Resource. Your Partner.
Dedicated to promoting a thriving and prosperous economy and community for the Greater Taunton Area for over 100 years and counting." An investment in the Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce is an investment in you and your business! When you join the Chamber, you become part of a community. We’re as committed to your growth as we are the vibrancy of the Greater Taunton area. History
The Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce was established in 1914. In its first year, the Mercantile Bureau of the Chamber of Commerce came up with the idea to have a “huge, illuminated Christmas tree in addition to other appropriate decorations on the Green in order to boost downtown business for the holiday season”. In order to make this happen, the Chamber of Commerce needed to raise $155, which it did, leading to the first Lighting of the Green in December 1914, an event which continues to this day, and which has earned Taunton the title of “The Christmas City”. The Chamber of Commerce became incorporated in 1917 and changed its name to the Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce in 1967 to include our neighboring communities of Berkley, Dighton and Raynham. Through our 108 years in existence, the Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce has remained committed to our member businesses’ needs as well as to the needs of our community. Today, we continue to offer our members both virtual and in-person networking events, question and answer sessions with our local legislators and educational meetings and webinars on topics that are of interest to our members and community. Our members can become more involved in the Chamber via membership in the Chamber Committees, which currently include the Young Professionals Group, the Events Committee, the Ambassadors Committee, and our HR Resource Group. We are proud to grant two scholarships annually to deserving high school graduates in our community, and to give back to our community via our Holiday Cheer campaign, which supports three non-profit organizations in our area. |
